Coming back and going freelance

Back updating ZhngSuiSui. Anyway, I’ve just made a biggest decision of my life.

Quit my job and go for freelance

I don’t find anything bad about working freelance. Instead, I find it both challenging and exciting. I’ve been working in a web developing team for 6 months. Due to the size of the company, I only get to crop pictures and design with restriction and limited colours. A few of us, who also came to work at the same times has one common idea about our experience here, our design going backward. Due to the restriction and limited colours, we cannot explore too much in the office. We all tied up with only one client.

I’ve been working on WordPress theme design for one year exactly. Not only did I get enough saving every month, I also gain a lot of experience in WordPress coding and design different web and client. I need to multitask a lot, from replying client to designing and developing. An all in one experience.

Freelance is not free

Just so your friends and my friends know, freelance doesn’t mean we have all the time on hand. We need to keep up with business, clients and sometimes blogs. The hardest thing I find becoming a freelance is the time management, I tend to get lazy from time to time because I just have all the time on hand at the moment. Sometimes I fear for free time too, because as a freelancer – If you’re free, you’re fucked!

Important experiences

A few experiences that freelance can gain are branding and marketing. Unlike working in web design firm, if you’re web designer, all you need to do is design and more design, nothing else beside design. You don’t get to learn how to brand the client, you may gain design experience, but does it worth that much? I doubt it. Nowadays, a design doesn’t cost much, especially when Internet become so common that people can log onto a web and buy one set of design for free or for a very low price. You need to gain more than just design and coding a web.

XHTML/CSS – Simple Intro

This is not a new topic, nor stunning topic on the Internet. There are thousand if not million introduction to XHTML and CSS, but some of them having too much text really bounce back the newbie. Especially those students who are actually force to learn it. Recently I joined into a web company, 3 new comers including me. There’s one from multimedia background, and what surprise me was that he did not know how to code a web in XHTML/CSS, instead, he has been learning a lot about table layout. Weird, but true. Anyway, as a lazy guy, I always find an easy way out of everything Here are my most simplest introduction to XHTML/CSS, with pictures (So you’re not going to bored out).

What is XHTML/CSS

The image explained everything. It’s the backend of the website you surfing. Simply put: XHTML = Structure. CSS = Style. You need the basic structure for your page then only you style it, or vice versa. If your teacher telling you using example, they’re fucking your brain. Don’t use example, don’t need to view source as well, no point, instead it will makes you more confuse. My idea about the structure – Boxes!

Structuring a web

Above showed how a web page structured. Everything is about box and how you place them is up to the CSS, but you need to be very clear about your structure first, that’s why you need a common name that you understand.

Next up is something more complex. I hope that helps, it’s my first time giving such a… Info? Whatever it is, bear with me, while I’m getting use to this whole, blogging and magazine thing

Minimize image backup with WordPress

As far as I know, Kathie and I don’t like to use the built-in image uploader. Simply because they create too many unneccessary thumbnail and sizes that taking space and time to backup. In order to cut thing short, I thought of creating a uploading folder to just upload the image for a blog, and only to backup one folder that contain all the images across a blog, which will save lots of time and probably some space on the hosting as well.

I created a simple image uploader few years back. I even got the guts to open an image uploader site using my stupid script which eventually became Russian hacker learning tool What a shame. I’m closing that site soon, to get away from paying a tool for hackers. Well, that is because I did not secure the uploading form, as it is free service, it was freely and quickly available for all the visitor.

After finishing my work in the evening, I opened the script again (only 2 files), put in a login form, upload it on my blog and do some test on few more blog, to make sure it is easy to setup for a WordPress powered blog.

Another blogging system comes out from a quick idea we have had couple weeks ago. It was a very leisure shopping in a mall. All of the sudden, I told my zar-bor about the name “Zhng Sui Sui” was good to be promote as a “beautiful”, her respond was good, so we have a big laugh. Well, my inner told me that it was all about jokes in the leisure moment, but it ended up we work it out on a public holiday.

So in 1st of May, we both sat down on my workstation and start designing this page while watching “How to lose friends and alienate people” a good laugh while designing. Well, “Mayday” as she mentioned this website birth date. Anyway, we are still looking forward to see how to develop and zhng this website, and probably making some money to zhng your stuff too
