Out sourcing your web work
Nowadays, a lot of companies are developing their company website. But most of them tend to look for an in-house web team which costing them thousand of dollar every year, and this sum scared out a lot of companies as well. I would say this is the nature of the business. The web team depending on your monthly paycheck for their whole team while the company paying to believe that their website is nicely handled by them, which in fact, most of the time it’s just putting there for nothing, unless some update.
I recently come across a company website that using CMS (WordPress to be precise), whenever the company wants to update their site content, they will have to call the web team to do it for them. Instead of doing themselves for free, they’re paying for something that can be done within minutes. They still believe that the web team used a lot of time and technical skill to update their company website, by paying thousand for them every month.
My point is to point out that creating a company website, be it static or dynamic content, the cost is actually lower and easier than one thought.
1, Hosting and domain
This two thing is quite handle-free. They both only need to update once in a year, or maybe longer. Depend how long the contract they bought. The hassle was on looking for a good hosting. Normally hosting that cost $8 – $20 per month would be reliable enough. Speaking of domain name, doesn’t matter which company you bought from, all they need is just to point it to the hosting, which doesn’t require a lot of hardwork nor tech knowledge. Costing only in between $10 – $15. Overall costing of the year, $250.
2, Design
This is heavily depend on your company profile and branding. A lot of designer, web designer especially, doesn’t have the idea about branding, how the structure or the concept your company is, instead, they’ll just design whatever suit them or according to the company comment. But however, due to the competitive freelance out there, a company can save cost on the design. Paying a few thousand to the professional or just out source it to a freelancer which a one time paying and can be done according to your need. I’ll estimate this to $200 – $1000, depending on point 3.
3, CMS (Content Management System)
I believe, those companies that looking to develop their web knows the importance of web marketing. They want to update the site, they want to market their product through their website. So a CMS comes into play. What I stated on point 2 is also part of this, you can request the designer to implement your design into a CMS, so there’s no cost here. Depend on your preference and content, there are lots of open-source (read: Free) script on the Internet. Unless special requirement that need a custom CMS, then it would cost some $2000 – $3000. I’ll leave this as open-source script
4, Update the content
Since a website is built with CMS, there’s actually no need to look for the freelancer or web team to update it. The company secretary can done this alone. That is why I always recommend CMS, doesn’t matter it is static or dynamic content, because you never know when they want to make changes on the existing copy writing. CMS is just a time saver.
As in the calculation I have had here, it merely cost USD750 for a one time fee, and some yearly maintenance. Doesn’t matter how, a company should always be caution on spending on the web. Believe it or not, some companies are spending thousand of dollar for their static website. I would say this is one innocent spending on unnecessary expenses.
